Housing Group Homes CMHA provides group home living to seriously mentally ill individuals who meet admission criteria. The four group homes provide permanent and short-term rehabilitative housing for a maximum of thirty-three individuals who are willing and able to live cooperatively. The staff support in the group homes is independent upon the needs and skills of the individuals in the homes. It varies from a fully staffed home to support being provided on an as needed basis by the mobile team. The goals of the housing program are to provide people with all the skills needed to live within a home environment in a way that encourages their independence within the community. Individuals must have the ability to pay rent and grocery expenses and must abide by the Residential Tenancies Act. Apartments Through a partnership with the Municipal non-profit housing program, CMHA has ten rent geared-to-income apartment units available for individuals receiving mental health services. Rent Supplement Programs Sixty-one individual apartment units are available through rent supplement programs for individuals who meet MCHA criteria for service. Thirty-five of these units are specifically for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. (Homelessness is defined as having no fixed address or living in emergency shelter. Being at risk of homelessness is defined as being returned to the community from a psychiatric hospital, living with aging family members, spending more than fifty percent of income on shelter, or living in sub-standard housing.) Clients in the Homelessness Initiative receive the same 24-hour mobile support as other Mental Health Services clients. |
